Our client, the National Association of regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) presented us with a bit of a challenge. They were looking for a world map that could be completely updatable by non-tech savvy users. This means that the map had to look good, work well, display pertinent information, and be easy enough for NARUC’s staff to add and edit points with just the click of the mouse.
To meet this challenge, the vOfficeware Flash Development team pushed the limits of action script to support a dynamic world map. We’re pretty proud of the results! Not only does the map work great, it is geopolitically up to date! None of the stock maps available online are current on the latest border disputes. Fortunately, our graphics design team was well equipped to add in country lines to NARUC’s satisfaction.
More importantly, this map is awesome for the end-user to update. Adding a point is as easy as clicking a place on the map where it should be added. A mix of PHP and Actionscript code places the point onto the live map in realtime.

The user can specify metadata to appear as a tooltip on the live map as presented below:
