Sure we rely on Rackspace for the day to day, but still catastrophic events can occur. In May of 2011, Amazon’s Cloud was knocked off line for several days. Trusting a single provider became too risky.
For most of our clients, our supporting infrastructure is now located across three providers. Primary hosting is with Rackspace, secondary backups are sent to Amazon nightly, and a third is sent to a locally owned and operated storage provider. Over and above these redundancies we have security scanners processing our clients’ sites 4 times a day.
We’ve been fortunate not to have a security event on Rackspace, however in the event we do, we are poised to find out well before Google crawls your site and de-indexes you.
